Wild flowers of Fontaine de Vaucluse
I followed my intuition up a hiking trail I had never seen before. There was a trail I frequented along the edge of the river and as I drove in that direction I felt a strong urge to stop and hike up a ravine.
Since this is more or less how I navigate my way through the world, I stopped and listened. I looked on my phone to see whether there was a possibility of a loop and there was so off I went up this mysterious ravine.
I fell in love with a tree along the way - also captured as an oil painting - and kept going until I reached the plateau overlooking the valley. It was a magical evening and as I descended towards the edge of the plateau to look at the view I came upon a warm yellow field of wild flowers. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
I so badly wanted to pick some flowers but felt bad to pluck them from their prime. You can imagine my delight when I spotted a full plant that had been pushed out at the root by some wild board. There was my treasure and I hiked all the way back to my parked car with my yellow bunch.
They brought me so much joy in my home. I noticed instantly one morning when the life-force was starting to wither. I spend the whole day and night trying to capture these flowers and completed the painting in a few days.
The original artwork lives in Joucas, a village not too far from where I lived with a beautiful family that has a holiday house in France that they escape to in the South African winter.
