Tony's tulips

from €12.00

Tony was a friend and neighbour in Isle sur la Sorgue. He worked in a winery a little stretch from our village and his work in the wine industry in implied driving around from wine region to wine region occasionally for meetings and wine events.

Chateauneuf du Pape is a well known village/ terroir. It produces excellent wines and one day Tony was driving from Chateauneuf back to Gigondas where he worked, and he discovered fields of tulips. He found that some Dutch people had settled in the area and they were growing tulip bulbs to sell back in the Netherlands.

As a result of seeking only the bulbs, they were selling the flowers along the side of the road at a very affordable price.

Tony, thoughtfully, bought a few bunches and brought them to my home where I had invited him to dinner that evening.

The tulips were magnificent. Each bunch a different variety and different colours. This little bunch brought me so much joy that I had no choice but to attempt to capture it before the life-force withered.

A woman in a neighbouring village, Pernes-les-Fontaines, bought the original painting as her dog’s name was Tulip.
