Saumane Trees
One of my favourite hiking trails near Isle sur la Sorgue was behind the Chateau de Saumane… (A castle that housed the Marquis de Sade - a French writer, libertine, political activist and nobleman best known for his libertine novels and imprisonment for sex crimes, blasphemy and pornography. Also the origin of “sadism”).
There were a few magical trail options around there that I loved to explore. The lot where I parked my car was surrounded by pine trees and at sunset they would go a variety of different hues of reds, oranges and pinks.
One evening I brought my plein-air painting materials and watched the trees change colour while hikers walked past me commenting on my odd use of colour.
These are my Saumane trees.
